Off to Fiji August 1, 2008

I am about to embark on the journey of a lifetime. I am traveling to Taveuni, Fiji to teach with Global Classrooms for Peace promoting cultural understanding and environmental awareness. Global Classrooms for Peace aims to promote a greater appreciation for our multicultural world, honor the uniqueness of all people, and extend a hand or friendship across the globe.

Our team of five teachers is bringing along about 1,000 pounds of school supplies and materials to contribute to local education. We will be teaching lessons to students who are excited by learning yet have not had the opportunity to use a pair of scissors or look at a world map. I am truly honored to be an ambassador for such a far reaching, global organization.

Global Classrooms for Peace is endorsed by the United Nations, UNESCO, Rotary International, and many other esteemed organizations. For additional information or to offer support, please go to www.globalclassroomsforpeace.com. Please spread the word to any individuals or organizations who you think would like to become a part of this extraordinary endeavor.  There is also an application for any educators who are interested in next year’s trips to Fiji and Tanzania.

I would like to especially thank Global Classrooms for Peace, the Calabasas Rotary Club, and Viewpoint School for sponsoring this momentous trip.

This is a fabulous opportunity to learn about another culture and bring those experiences back into my own classroom. I will be blogging about my adventures at carolineelizabeth@wordpress.com. Our travels will also be documented at www.viewpoint.org, and www.globalclassroomsforpeace.com. Stay tuned for sea plane landings and a traditional tribal ceremony as we are formally welcomed into the village by the regional chief and his warriors. You can also check out articles in the LA Times, Daily News, Acorn, and Ventura Star.

Thanks to everyone for their support!
